Sterile(No-Sign) Zones
We are now moving towards designating additional sterile, or no-sign, zones. These will primarily include residential communities and other sensitive areas where excessive signage detracts from the character and amenity of the space.
Our goal is to preserve community aesthetics, protect public amenity, and ensure that neighbourhoods remain places of comfort and pride.
Wer recognize that signage plays a vital role in commerce and communication. Accordingly, our approach is not to restrict indiscriminately, but to regulate in a measured and intelligent manner.
In particular, we will strengthen oversight of LED and digital signage. While these formats can be effective for businesses, they must be appropriately located. Moving forward, such signage will only be approved in suitable areas, specifically where they do not pose a distraction to motorists or disrupt residential life.
The intensity of light emitted, particularly at night, can cause significant discomfort to residents. As such, approvals will be restricted in residential neighbourhoods and in close proximity to intersections, where driver focus and road safety are paramount.
To support this next phase, the KSAMC will host a workshop with outdoor advertising agencies on Monday, May 4, to address issues relating to unregulated signage and the designation of sterile areas.
This approach ensures that we:
Support economic activities, promote road safety, and safeguard the visual and social quality of our communities.
