I join the nation and the global athletics fraternity in mourning the passing of the Honourable Stephen “Franno” Francis, OJ, Jamaica’s legendary track and field coach. Coach Francis was a man of quiet strength, unwavering discipline, and exceptional vision. As co-founder and Technical Director of the MVP Track & Field Club, he dedicated his life to developing champions, shaping character, and elevating Jamaica’s standing on the world stage.

His impact reached far beyond medals and will live on in the values he instilled and the countless lives he transformed. The timing of his passing, just one day after celebrating his 64th birthday, makes this loss even more heartbreaking. While he faced illness in recent months, he did so with the same courage, humility, and determination that defined his remarkable life and career.

Coach Francis leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of Jamaicans. We give thanks for his extraordinary service to our nation and pray that his soul rests in eternal peace.
