Signage Compliance Outreach and Mobile Engagement Programme
We are pleased to report encouraging progress from the KSAMC’s signage compliance outreach programme, which continues to demonstrate the value of combining public education, direct engagement and enforcement to improve compliance.
As part of our integrated approach, the Compliance unit has continued its public education and outreach throughout station engagements at plazas and commercial centres across the municipality. These engagements complement the Corporation’s existing compliance services by bringing officers directly into the business community to provide guidance on the regularization process, clarify obligations under the law, facilitate applications, and assist businesses wishing to settle outstanding signage fees.
To date, the team has engaged 140 businesses across eight commercial locations. The response has been extremely positive. Overall compliance among the businesses visited increased from nine per cent before the visits to 53% following the intervention, while approximately JMD 3.96 million was collected in signage fees.
The positive response demonstrates the value of continuing to expand opportunities for direct engagement with the business community, making it easier for entities to access information, receive guidance, and regularize their signage. We therefore wish to commend those business operators who have responded positively by engaging with the Corporation, seeking guidance, and taking the necessary steps to become compliant.
The Corporation will continue these out-station engagements across Kingston and St. Andrew as part of our ongoing commitment to making the compliance process more accessible, while continuing to encourage all entities with publicly visible signs to regularize their signage and remain compliant.
