Signage Compliance Outreach and Mobile Engagement Programme
While much attention has been placed on signage enforcement in recent months, we wish to remind the public that the Corporation's objective remains compliance.
The requirement to obtain approval and pay the applicable fees for signs and billboards is established under law and forms an important part of maintaining an orderly, safe, and well-regulated municipality. We therefore continue to encourage all entities displaying signs to the public, whether on public or private land, to engage the Corporation and take the necessary steps to regularize.
To further support this effort, the KSAMC will be expanding its public education and compliance outreach activities through a series of mobile out-stations across Kingston and St. Andrew.
These out-stations will be established within plazas and commercial centres throughout the municipality and are intended to bring the compliance process directly to businesses. Staff from the Corporation will be available to answer questions, provide guidance on permits and approvals, receive applications, and conduct preliminary inspections where required.
Importantly, these engagements are not only intended to strengthen awareness of the signage regularization process, but also to provide real-time clarification and support to business operators who may still be uncertain about their obligations under the law.
Businesses will also be afforded the opportunity to settle outstanding signage fees during these engagements should they wish to do so. This initiative therefore reflects our continued commitment to education, accessibility, and voluntary compliance before stronger enforcement measures become necessary.
However, I wish to make it clear that participation in these engagements should not be viewed as a substitute for compliance. Entities operating within plazas and commercial centres visited by our teams will be given a one-week period to settle any outstanding signage obligations after the engagement. Failure to do so will result in enforcement action in accordance with the law.
We encourage businesses to take advantage of these outreach sessions and come prepared with the relevant documentation. The outreach location and schedule will continue to be published through the KSAMC website and social media channels.
Our message remains simple, engage with us, get the information you need, regularize your signage, and help us build a safer, more orderly, and visually balanced Kingston and St. Andrew.
