Tour of the Downtown Market District
I want to share with you, that on Friday, May 29, I joined Minister McKenzie, in his capacity as Member of Parliament for the West Kingston Constituency and the Prime Minister, Dr. The Most Hon. Andrew Holness, on a tour of sections of the downtown market district.
The visit provided an opportunity to highlight both the progress being made and the challenges that remain within this important commercial area. During the tour, the Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of the KSAMC to improve order within the district, including measures aimed at clearing roadways and removing tarpaulins and other structures that impede visibility, accessibility, and security operations.
I wish to thank Minister McKenzie for highlighting challenges being faced in the downtown market district and for facilitating this important engagement. The visit afforded the Prime Minister a firsthand appreciation of the issues affecting the area and the level of intervention required to improve conditions for vendors, businesses, and members of the public.
I am encouraged by the discussions held and look forward to continued collaboration among the relevant agencies and stakeholders as we work to enhance the safety, functionality, and overall environment of the downtown market district.
His Worship the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Andrew A. Swaby, JP
