Reggae and Black History Month

February offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate both our music and the strength of our people through Reggae Month and Black History Month. Reggae is one of Jamaica’s greatest cultural gifts to the world, carrying our stories, struggles, faith, and pride.

As we honour the legends who shaped this culture, we must also actively support the artists, communities, and young creatives who will carry this legacy forward. This requires a renewed commitment to strengthening the creative industries and preserving our cultural heritage.

At the same time, Black History Month reminds us of the resilience, achievements, and enduring spirit of our people, as well as our responsibility to continue building a more just and inclusive society. As a municipal corporation, this observance calls on us to protect our cultural heritage, uplift our communities, and ensure that our work reflects the pride, history, and potential of the people we serve.
